In the Great Commission at the end of Matthew's gospel Jesus left his followers with a great vision...Christians are to encourage anyone and everyone to follow Jesus, the Son of God, and know His presence in their lives. Jesus also gave us the Great Commandment to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, and to love our neighbours as ourselves.
It is said that a Great Commitment to the Great Commission and the Great Commandment makes for a Growing Missionary Church.
It is this vision of Jesus Christ that inspires all that we seek to be and do here at St. Peter's.
Our verse for 2011:
But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To Him be glory both now and forever! AMEN
Our Prayer at St. Peter’s based upon the Great Commission (Mathew 28.16-20):
God our Father,
This year may we see people drawn by your Spirit to faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.
This month may we bring you glory in our Eastgate and Pub locations. May you make us one unified family and regularly add to our number. May we provide a warm welcome and a spiritual home in which to serve and be served.
This week may we long to know the Lord Jesus better through the Bible and by the Holy Spirit dwelling within us. May we be given hearts to obey and grow mature in our faith.
This Sunday may we encourage and be encouraged as we meet together to learn, worship and pray for our world and for ourselves. May we learn how to live generously so that ministries are released to the blessing of many and our building speaks of the living church we seek to be.
This day may we experience the presence of the risen Christ as we serve him in this broken and fallen world.
Amen.
